Baton Rouge & New Orleans, LA – Baton Rouge’s Holiday KOA was a very nice campground, but is still not enough to beat Tucson’s first stop! On the first full day of our being here, we woke up and did recreational things before loading up and going to see the old state capitol building and some of the LSU campus. The history of Baton Rouge is very dramatic; many people were fighting to impeach and force their governor, Huey Long, to resign. He assumed a very dictator-like role as governor and spent absurd amounts of money on his policies and ideas. After we finished up in the museum, I persuaded the family to have lunch at THE ORIGINAL Raising Cane’s in Baton Rouge at the intersection between Highland Road and State Street on the LSU Campus. They were slightly skeptical at first due to the fact that Raising Cane’s only sells one thing, but after reading the intense history of the business, they were hooked and loved the meal! Raising Canes sauce is like your ordinary fry sauce on steroids. I have never tasted anything like it and I can understand why Raising Canes sells it in 24oz cups! After lunch, we rode along a bike path to a museum showcasing information about the USS Kidd and the Vietnam War. That essentially wrapped up our day on Tuesday. The next day was devoted to one thing and one thing only: New Orleans. There will never be another city quite like it, keeping its antique-ness but also being so metropolitan. We rode on a cruise boat for about two hours, and then took a horse-drawn tour of the city. I loved how the exterior of the french quarter streets and houses are maintained exactly like they were in the 1700s. After the tour, we were having trouble choosing where to go for dinner, but a very persuasive man lured us into his restaurant, which happened to be delicious. After our meal, Zina scraped her knee, but other than that, we all made it back fine. That sums up our adventure to this point! Overall Rating: 8.9/10

Novalie can drink that Cane’s sauce, she loves it too!
