The plan was to leave at 11:40, grab Myra and Will from the middle school and continue on down the road. Two hours later we finally pulled out of the driveway. All things considered that was a positive outcome! The “real” sabbatical will start when we have travelled some 1347 miles in three days. Before I share a little of the method to the madness of my plan, I will share some of the pictures of what we looked like when we left.
When I started planning the sabbatical I had a few thoughts. First, it would be winter in Pullman and in a lot of places nearby so I wanted to make a big drive to get to someplace warm. Second, part of the sabbatical is meant to be able to see places that would be hard to see with the regularly granted time off from work. I didn’t include spectacular places in California, Oregon, Utah, or Colorado because we probably can see those in a regular vacation. Third, I wanted to start in the South to maximize the good weather. Fourth, I didn’t want to always feel like we were on the go so I set a basic rule to stay at least three nights in each place and only drive about 4 hours to the next spot. I am anxious to find out if this plan works!
We are now on day three of the long drive and Zina really didn’t want to get back in the truck! I understand! We would rather be riding our bikes around the campground. But, yesterday’s 8.5 hour drive is the longest planned drive of the entire sabbatical! It is hard to see the future from here!
